CIM repository (WMI repository)

The on-disk database where WMI stores class definitions and instances: OBJECTS.DATA, INDEX.BTR and MAPPING1-3.MAP in System32\wbem\Repository.

The CIM repository is WMI's persistent store, in C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository (Repository\FS on Windows XP). It holds the class definitions and static instances of every namespace, including permanent event subscriptions.

It is made of OBJECTS.DATA, INDEX.BTR and the three MAPPING files. Microsoft does not document the container; its layout was reverse-engineered by FireEye (python-cim). See Inside OBJECTS.DATA.
